Crossing Over the Sabie’ River
I love this picture. I love it because it was such an ordinary day for the Elephant family. They were just moving down, or was it up, stream to find a safe place to settle or rest or eat. I’m sure mom and dad were in the group, there was a “school-ager” dawdling who made it into the next shot, and baby gently being guided along. These magnificent creatures were at home. They weren’t in a zoo, weren’t being told where to eat and sleep. They wandered past a heard of gazelle who were also grazing and seemed to understand the necessary symbiosis of the scene. They were where they belonged, and were safe except for the other predators in the region, the leopards, and lions. It was a warm African afternoon… A scene of beauty and fascination.
